Adult onset asthma is the asthma that occurs in adulthood (after the age of 20). Basically in this type of asthma the airways get inflammated and constricted. As the person has coughs, wheezing, chest tightness, chest pain, chest pressure, shortness of breath, rapid breathing, breathlessness after exercise of physical work, emotions like crying, laughing or anxiety. Almost 50% of the adults with asthma develop allergies. They become more likely to be affected by the factors that trigger their asthma every time they encounter these factors. Also they are more prone to the infections like nasal infections, respiratory or bronchial infections. Also if you are taking any medication that exacerbates the asthma symptoms or you develop the basic symptoms of asthma, you need to consult your doctor as soon as possible. Also if the environmental factors such as tobacco smoke, mold, dust, feather beds or perfumes irritate your airways, they might be the early symptoms of asthma flare ups. For the women who have problems during hormonal changes like taking estrogen after menopause for 10 years or more or during pregnancy are also liable to get adult onset asthma. Mostly women develop adult onset asthma. Also the adults who have frequent illness or viruses like cold, flu may also develop this asthma. |
