CAN SMOKING CAUSE ASTHMA? |
Well, a big ‘YES’ for the answer to this question. If you have asthma, smoking is especially harmful as it has an adverse effect on the lungs. Infact smoking is one of the biggest triggers of asthma and the smoker asthma patients have worsened and much frequent asthma symptoms than their non smoker counterparts have. Smoking can exacerbate asthma in many different ways. When a person smokes, he or she gets cough or may wheeze or even fall short of breath. Small particles within the smoke land on soft bronchial tissues and acts as the asthma triggers. Smoke irritates the airways causing them to swollen, narrow, and filled with sticky mucus. Inhaled smoke causes inflammation of the airway. Therefore the smokers with asthma may experience extreme inflammation jointly by the smoke and the disease. Also smoking produces mucus which is also responsible for triggering asthma. We do know very well cigarette smoke is a known asthma trigger as it constrict the linings and cause an asthma attack. Even second hand smoke is harmful to asthmatics since it contains particulate matter and toxic chemicals that triggers an asthma attack in smoker asthma patients. So it is a sincere advice that if you have just a single asthma symptom you need to stay away from smoking and also the smokers. |
